Take a break with Core!
Take a break with Core
How often do you sit in front of your computer to start working, and before you know it it’s the end of the day, and you barely took your eyes off the screen. This happens more often than we would like to admit, especially during the pandemic where so many of us have switched to working remotely.
Ever heard of the “20-20-20” Rule? It is recommended that for every 20 minutes spent using a screen, you should try to shift your vision to something that is at least 20 feet away, and for at least 20 seconds. This is a good technique to keep in mind to save your eyes from excessive strain from long periods of screen use.
Here are some suggestions from our team of things they like to do during a work break:
Exercise: There’s nothing better than getting your heart rate up a little and increasing your endorphins than by doing some light exercises. Many of our team members like to take short walks during their breaks, while others like to do some more intense exercises like burpees, pull-ups and running. It never hurts to get up and do some stretches as your muscles tend to get tense throughout the day, especially if you are sitting in the same position the majority of the time. So why not bump up your brain’s feel good neurotransmitters by moving and circulating blood throughout your body!
Socialize: There are so many friendly faces at Core and we love to socialize with each other! Although we are all still socially distancing, many members of our team like to catch up via video, texting or calling one another during short breaks. We ask how our families are doing, ask if we have any plans for the weekend or just vent about our work week. Whatever it may be it’s great to touch base with someone close or far just to see how they are doing. Core also has many “fur-iends” and their owners love to play with them, take them for walks, or just chill with them during their downtime.
Read/watch videos: Reading or watching something non-work related is a great way to reset your brain when you’re feeling a little stressed. Whether it be the news, Youtube, TedTalk, Netflix, or a book, there are endless possibilities of things you can read, watch or look at. With the increase of technology, we all have phones with internet and apps that allow us to stay updated on current events whether it be in our friends and families lives through social media or through local news sources.
Relax, quiet time, listen to music: It never hurts to take a minute or two to close your eyes and let them rest. Listening to music is another great way for you to relax and get your mind on a different rhythm. Our team has a diverse taste in music from classical to punk rock, but if you’re not into music then you can always sit outside and listen to the sounds of nature.
Here are some of our team members favorite artists/bands:
Taylor Swift
Kim Petras
The Beatles
Smashing Pumpkins
Dave Matthews Band
Deftones
Eat a snack: What better way to fuel your brain than to eat a snack! There are many healthy and not so healthy snack options out there but everything in moderation is fine. Had a rough week? It's okay to splurge every once in a while, we're not judging!
Here are some of our team members favorite snacks:
Goldfish
Cheez-it
Oreos
Popcorn
Chips
Trail Mix
The main purpose of these break suggestions is to direct your attention away from work so your brain can rest and refresh. It’s important not to overload as some may consider there to be a “crash” if we do not take care of our bodies by getting a good night rest, eating healthy, staying hydrated and remembering to take breaks throughout the work day.
